Leave My Husband Alone – Bishop Obinim’s Wife

Popular gospel musician, Florence Obinim has thrown her full weight behind her husband, Bishop Daniel Obinim, asking those who are castigating the bishop over his alleged sexual affair to leave him alone to do his pastoral work.

Breaking her silence on his husband’s alleged sexual affair with a pastor’s wife since the story broke last week, the popular musician who has three children with the bishop said it takes a man of God like her husband to admit his sins and openly confess them. “It is an honour for me as his wife that he has confessed his sin five years after he committed it. “I’m therefore solidly behind him and I know he will overcome the aftershocks,” she said in an interview after church service at the International God’s Way Church headquarters at Kenyasi near Kumasi last Sunday.

Over the weekend it was rumoured in Kumasi that Mrs. Obinim had left her matrimonial home as a result of the allegations against her husband who is the General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church. But when the Graphic Showbiz asked her about the state of her marriage in the presence of her husband, Mrs. Obinim said the recent developments had even strengthened their marriage. “I’ll say Halleluia, Halleluia, Halleluia”, she said, imitating her husband during his television programmes. She said for publicly confessing his sins after five years, Bishop Obinim had proved to be a real man of God. “How many pastors can do what my husband has done?” She questioned pointing out that people should praise him rather than condemn him.

Mrs. Obinim said she and the husband swore during their marriage that only death could separate them and she sticks to that oath. Earlier at the church service, the celebrated gospel musician had electrified the atmosphere with her soul-inspiring songs firing up the huge congregation to shout “No Shaking, No Shaking” in support of Bishop Obinim.

Mrs. Obinim would not speak about the court case involving the husband because the matter was before the court. Bishop Obinim who also spoke said he stood by the apology he made to his wife, parents, his church and indeed the entire nation over the sexual affair with the wife of a junior pastor of his church as well as his storming of the studios of Accra based radio station Hot FM to protest “insults on me”.

He however maintained that the woman in question was not married to the pastor at the time of the sexual act as being alleged. He praised his wife for giving him all the necessary encouragement saying “this and other support from my church and well wishers have encouraged me to work extra harder for the Lord.”

He said that no one is perfect in this world and questioned “how many people including pastors will be bold to confess as I have done?” he said having learnt his lessons he would never again physically confront any journalist if the person makes even the dirtiest of allegation against him.
